The Law on Fixed-term Employment Contract & Practice

Fixed-term employment contract as defined in Section 11 of Employment Act 1955 is a contract of service for a specified period of time or for the performance of a specified piece of work which shall terminate when the period of time for which such contract was made has expired or when the piece of work specified in such contract has been complete. Many organisations in the private sector are using fixed-term contract in engaging employees to work regardless of position title. It is also well known fact that there were numerous disputes relating to fixed term contract between Claimant and his employer which the Industrial Court has arbitrated and handed down awards.
