The Use of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) & Supplements to Mitigate and Manage COVID-19
Jointly organized by the George Town Institute of Open and Advanced Studies (GIOAS) of Wawsan Open University (WOU), UTAR Hospital and Lam Wah Ee Hospital TCM Divisions, Malaysian Chinese Medical Society of Epidemic Control and Prevention (CMEC).
The COVID-19 pandemic has created a global health emergency. As to date, there is no medicine that can effectively prevent and cure the disease. Vaccination is helping to reduce the incidences of serious disease and death but appears not to be so effective in preventing transmission after 6 months.
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been used in treating varieties of diseases. During the SARS epidemic, there was strong clinical evidence in Hong Kong hospitals that TCM helps to reduce the severity of the disease with decreased mortalities. When the COVID-19 started in Wuhan, TCM was used to prevent and treat the disease. Many of these studies have already been published and will be highlighted during this webinar. There are also evidences that vitamins such as D and C as well as Zinc have roles in prevention and treatment for COVID-19. Furthermore, povidone iodine and even salt water sprays and gargle seem to have effect in reducing viral load in the nose and throat. This webinar will present scientific and clinical evidence on the use of certain supplements for the mitigation and management of COVID-19.
